The Laskey Company: French Horn Mouthpieces
Years of making custom french horn mouthpieces for players from around the world has helped determine what players want and need to make a difference in their sound. These features are now available to all players in the form of the Laskey standard product line of french horn mouthpieces. A special thanks to the many professional players from around the country who helped in the development of a concise and exceptional line of french horn mouthpieces consisting of four sizes.
The Numbering System:
As french horn players seem to use the metric system to describe the size of the mouthpieces, Scott Laskey decided to number the line in a metric way. The line represents the metric measurement, with the first number dropped. For instance, if a mouthpiece measures :
17,00 mm is the 70 series
17,25 mm is the 725 series
17,50 mm is the 75 series
17,75 mm is the 775 series
18,0 mm is the 80 series
18,5 mm is the 85 series
A Unique Rim Contour:
One quality of these standard french horn mouthpieces is the unique rim contour. There is definition to the inside diameter and yet the roundness of the rim shape allows for easy movement, as well as a high degree of control and flexibility. Realizing that many french horn players feel a personal affinity with a rim that they have played for many years, and that there is a certain degree of "comfort" in having the same rim on your face, it is Scott Laskey’s belief that his rim contour will not only offer comfort, but will also provide a higher degree of accuracy, flexibility, and improved intonation.
The Cup:
The cup selection was determined by what the most popular sizes being used by players are today, and what is believed to offer optimum performance. Currently, Siegfried’s Call offers the Laskey mouthpieces in 2 cup sizes, G and F. Other sizes are available upon special request. Scott Laskey has chosen not to offer deeper cups on the shallower mouthpieces as he feels it will not create the proper balance needed.
All cup sizes are made with a standard throat size of .182"/("14")/4,62 mm.
G
This standard cup is offered in all sizes. Tests by Scott Laskey indicate that this cup provided the best mix of tone and color to virtually every player. He notes that, “While slightly shallower than many cups we have seen players use, its performance out shined them all”.
F
A slightly deeper and more funnel cup than the G cup. It still maintains the precision of attack that the G cup offers, but with a slightly thicker and rounder sound. Mr. Laskey notes that the F cup is “A little deeper than the traditional "Farkas" cup”.
All mouthpieces from The Laskey Company feature a bright, glossy, silver plated finish.
